Colour Washed Ash

Cork, Ireland

This bespoke kitchen by Nicholas Moody Kitchens combines refined craftsmanship with a calm, contemporary aesthetic. Designed as the heart of the home, the space balances rich materials, clean architectural lines, and thoughtful functionality to create a kitchen that feels both elegant and welcoming.

At the centre of the room sits a generous island, finished in deep stained oak that reveals the natural grain of the timber. The cabinetry is framed with classic panel detailing, offering a subtle nod to traditional joinery while maintaining a modern, understated look. Long brushed metal handles add a refined linear accent and complement the darker cabinetry tones.

Overhead, a sculptural brass pendant with globe lights brings warmth and softness to the space, echoing the subtle brass tones used throughout the kitchen. Large glazed doors and roof lights flood the room with natural light, highlighting the rich textures of the materials and the herringbone timber flooring underfoot.

Storage is carefully considered throughout the design. Tall cabinetry houses integrated appliances, while a dedicated pantry offers open shelving and organised storage for dry goods and small appliances. A concealed breakfast cabinet reveals a compact preparation area complete with worktop, shelving, and integrated power points, allowing everyday items to be neatly hidden when not in use.

The result is a kitchen that feels quietly luxurious — defined by rich materials, precise craftsmanship, and thoughtful design details that make it as practical as it is beautiful.

The island is topped with a striking end-grain butcher’s block, providing a warm and tactile surface that contrasts beautifully with the darker cabinetry below. Beyond the preparation area, a sleek white worktop integrates seamlessly with the main sink and cooking zone, creating a practical and durable workspace for everyday cooking.

The kitchen also flows naturally into a dining nook, where built-in bench seating and matching cabinetry create a relaxed and sociable space for meals and gatherings. The dark cabinetry continues here, providing visual continuity while framing the dining area.
